In many corporate cultures, managers openly expect employees to go the extra mile. It is widely regarded as being an efficient team management strategy. Sadly, it contravenes with basic human behavior. Humans dislike to be willed against their wills. Consequently, you can be sure that the quality produced is half-hearted. Resentment is inevitable.
What you need is a voluntary cooperation. It cannot be coerced. It came from employees’ intrinsic commitments. It is conditional, and not mandatory.
You don’t get to force people to go the extra mile for you. People choose to give it to you when you treat them right, and you treat them right by not expecting them to go the extra mile.
