The Perils of Yes

The Perils of ‘Yes’

Most people conform to avoid confrontation. Obedience is considered a desirable trait that maintains a sense of belonging. As a result, we suppress our feelings with apprehension when it is time to repudiate.

Agreeing on an inequitable decision, when you don’t want to, shortchanges yourselves. Accepting a request when it is harmful to you or others disavows your principles. Ascending to an unreasonable demand lets others exploit you.

Rejecting is not a bad response. It is necessary for your well-being and gives you a way to get on the right track.

Tyrants thrive when more people are not capable of rejecting.
