Internal and External Motivators

Internal motivators are your hobby, likeness, love, and calling. You do the work because of these visceral feeling.

External motivators are salary, fame, recognition, and promotion. The rewards keep you going.

One is not better than the other. Both motivators propel you to do your work better. Without internal motivators, your work feels like drudgery. Without external motivators, you can’t pay your bill to continue your pursuit.

Do the work you love, but make it compensable by external motivators.
