Calculative Personality Hurts

Being pettily calculative is a good economic principle.

  • Won’t pay the extra ten cents even if ten cents means nothing to you.
  • Won’t help if you know there is nothing you can get in return.
  • Won’t care if the other person is not someone who will be your potential benefactor.

Unfortunately, there will be times when the tables are turned no matter how low the probability is. What goes around comes around. No one likes to associate with ones who are calculative.

Shrewd consideration for self-interest passes economic tests, but fails human relationship. People who respect other human beings are altruistic.
