Multitasking Kills Quality

Multitasking Kills Quality

Multitasking is hailed as a prescribed skill needed in this competitive world: replying email while listening to a presentation; chatting while viewing Instagram feeds; working while listening to music.

What’s really happening is that your brain oscillates between one task and another. Your brain does not process multiple tasks in parallel. It does not multitask.

We only have one processor, and it is not a multi-core processor. For every task that you try to multitask, you split more attention and reduce deliberation. The only thing that suffers is quality.

Multitasking does not make you faster nor better.
